DOZENS FEARED DEAD AFTER TYPHOON CAUSES TRANSASIA PLANE TO CRASH AFTER ‘ATTEMPTED EMERGENCY LANDING’ IN TAIWAN

Dozens are feared dead after a plane crashed in Taiwan when it was forced to attempt an emergency landing during a typhoon.

The flight, operated by Taiwanese airline TransAsia Airways, reportedly crashed with four flight crew and more than 50 passengers on board at the end of the journey from the capital Taipei to Magong, a small island off the east coast of mainland Taiwan.
Central News Agency have reported that 51 people died after plane ran into difficulties during its second attempt at an emergency landing at Magong airport.
The head of the fire department in Penghu county also reported that seven people were injured in the crash, although some of these casualties may have been from people on the ground.
Taiwan had been battered by Typhoon Matmo today and the Central Weather Bureau put out warnings of heavy rain through the evening, even though the centre of the storm was over mainland China.
